Sola has extensive knowledge of the Norwegian Continental Shelf as well as West Africa, Egypt and Iran through various technical and executive roles. Prior to joining APC in 2018 he has served as Exploration Director and Deputy MD for Maersk Oil Norway, as Exploration Manager for BG Norway, as Exploration Manager Egypt for StatoilHydro and as Exploration Manager West Africa for Statoil.

Highlights in his carreer include the Statoil West Africa exploration campaign. Together with local operators his team drilled more than 10 successful exploration wells per year in Angola, creating one of the most important international assets for Statoil. The Angola assets are currently producing more than 200,000 boe/day from 8 FPSO units.

Highlights on the Norwegian shelf include securing the PL265 license for Statoil (better known as the Johan Sverdrup field, one of the largest oil and gas discoveries in Norway containing reserves of more than 2 billion boe) and the Jordbær discovery for BG in 2008 (today known as the Knarr field).

In all my roles I have put much effort into building strong exploration teams, with a good mix of experience and young eagerness. Close relations were built with authorities in all countries where I worked, including Norway where I also had the pleasure of leading bodies within Norsk Olje og Gass, as the spokesman/trustee for the Exploration Manager community.
